From the commentaries on Rosh Hashana:
ר’ יחיאל מאיר גאסטאנינער פלעגט זיך נוהג זיין, יעדער ראש־חודש נאכ’ן דאווענען טרינקען בראָנפען און זיך משמח מיט מתפללים. האט מען איהם איינמאל געפרעגט דעם טעם וועגען זיין התנהגות, האט ער געענטפערט:
— ווען עס קומט א נייער חודש, זיינען אידען פאר’דאגה’ט, זיי שרעקען זיך, ווער ווייסט וואס דער נייער חודש וועט ברענגען? האט דוד המלך גע’עצה’ט „נדחי ישראל יכנס“ [תהילים:קמ'ז.ב] מאכען די ראשי תיבות „יין“. ווען אידישע הארצען זיינען פאראומערט, איז א גלעזל משקה מסוגל אויפצומונטערען איז צו דערפרישען די פארביטערטע און פארשטויסענע אידישע הארצער.
Reb Yechiel Meir Gostaniner used to have the practice that every Rosh Chodesh (new month) after worship, he would drink whiskey and make merry with his paritioners. Once when somebody asked him the meaning of his behavior, he answered:
— When a new month comes, the Jews are worried, they’re afraid (because) who knows what the new month will bring? King David advised: Nidchei Yisroel Yekhaneis (He will gather together the dispersed of Israel) [Psalm 147:2]. This makes the acronym YaYiN (wine). When Jewish hearts are dispersed a little glass of mashkeh (booze) right down to the bottom, can refresh the embittered and repressed Jewish heart.

ישמח לב מבקשי יהוה — ס’איז די טבע פון א מענש, בעת ער זוכט א פארלארענע זאך ער בשעת דעםזוכער זײַן פול מיט צער און וועהטאָג. א פרעהליכער ווערט ער, ווען ער געפינט די אבדה, די ’’מבקשי ד’ ” די וואס זוכען גאָט זיינען פרייליך, האָבען גרויס הנאה באלד ווען זיי זוכען אים.
Yismach lev m’vakshei Hashem (Joyous of heart are those who seek Hashem) [Psalm 105:3] — It is human nature to be sad when one is looking for something that’s lost. But one becomes happy upon finding the lost [item]. The m’vakshei hashem, those who seek Gd, will assuredly experience great pleasure promptly when they look for Him. (R’ Simcha Bunam)

כי לא על הלחם לנדו יחיה האדם
ki lo al ha-lechem l’vado yichyeh ha-adam
… that not by bread alone does man live
(D’varim 8:3)
אל תתן לחית נפש תורך — דו זאָלסט נישט אוועקגעבען „תורך“ דײַן תורה צוליב חית נפש, צוליב פּרנסה. (ר’ זושא האניפּאָליער)
“Al-titein lichayat nefesh torecha” (Do not deliver the soul of thy turtledove unto the wild beast. Psalms 74:19) — you should not give away “torecha” (your turtle dove) your Torah because of the animal soul, [nor] for the sake of [your] livelihood. (R’ Zusha Hanipolier)
I believe the master is using the psalm as a proof text to give us a remez (a teaching based on a hint or subtle indication in the text).

I’m going to break tradition and post a teaching that is not on this week’s parsha. This particular teaching is on Psalm 104:23
יצא אדם לפעלו ולעבודאתו בדי ערב
yotsei adam l’fa’alo v’la’avodato adei-arev
a person goes out to his work and to his labor till evening
דער מענטש גייט צו זײַן טואונג און זײַן ארבעט באדארף ער טוט ביז אָוונט.
The person going to their work and labor is required to work till evening.
דער רבי נ”ע זאָגט בשם הבש”ט נ”ע אז יעדע נשמה וואָס ג-ט ב”ה שיקט אראָפּ אויף דער וועלט האָט א שליהות וואָס די נשמה דארף אויפטאָן אויף דער וועלט, וואָס די שליחות מוז די נשמה דורכפירן, ווײַל אזוי אין גזירא עליונה, אז דאָס איז דער פּועל פון דער נשמה.
The Alter Rebbe, ner elyon, said in the name of the BESh”T, ner elyon, that every soul that G-d, blessed be He, sends down into the world has a mission that it has to carry out in the world. That mission the soul must complete, because being the gezeirah elyonah,* this is the work of the soul.

I dedicate this post to my teacher, who sometimes needs to be reminded of who he is. (Don’t we all.)
It was a common practice, because these teachings were part of a vast oral tradition, for the teacher of the day to offer teachings in the name of his teacher, or his teacher’s teacher, or … on down the line often two or three or more generations back. This teaching from R’ Tsiduk HaKohen was taught in the name of R’ Moshe of Kobrin.
דער פסוק אין תהלים
The verse in Tehilim (Psalms 139:8)
”אִם אֶסַּק שָמַיִם שָם אָתָּה, וְאַצִּיעה שְאוֹל הִנֶּךָ”
Im esak shamayim sham atah, v’atsiyah she’ol hinnecha
If I ascend to Heaven, You are there;
If I descend to Sheol (the underworld), Behold! There You are!
האט ר’ משה קאברינער בעטייטשט:
:Rabbi Moshe of Kobrin taught means
אויב א מענש מיינט אז ער האָט דערגרייכט דער הימעל,
If a man thinks he has reached Heaven
