The Rescued from Outside the Ark
Among the animals that Gd ordered to be let into the ark came a buffalo that was born that day. Noach saw that his body was 44-and-a-half miles long and he couldn’t fit into the ark because he was too big. What was he to do? He drilled a hole in the wall of the ark and pulled his nose and horns through it and bound them to the ark. As the waters strengthened, the buffalo swam in the water and breathed through the hole in the ark.
Also, Og, King of Bashan, came to Noach and begged him to have mercy on him and let him enter the ark as well. Noach looked him over and was struck by his height. Noach thought to himself, “This giant has unnecessary fear. Surely the flood water will only reach his ankles and will do him no harm.” But since he had begged so intensely, Noach wanted him to swear not to cause any problems for his children as long as he lived. King Og agreed, so Noach allowed him to sit on one of the trees that was attached to the ark, and he opened up a window in the wall of the ark through which to give him food.
Noach brought into the ark a male and female of all living things — from the pure ones, seven, and from those that were not pure, two-by-two. When the flood descended, Noach blessed Gd and said: “Praised is Gd, who has given of his wisdom to those who fear Him; praised is He who has saved His Hasidim and kept them in the protection of His shadow, and who has bestowed his servant with understanding that he may speak to people and to all life from the beasts and animals to the creepy-crawlies and fish, so that all may know His power and His strength that fills the entire world.”
